Average Weather
January is the coldest month with an average daytime
temperature in the high 20s. July is the hottest month with a pleasant
daytime average high of 79. May and June are subject to rainy days with
chilly January being the driest month. KC is a great destination for summer
travelers who love outdoor activities but hate the heat of other urban
destinations.
Transportation
At Kansas City International Airport you'll find outlets for
all major rental car companies and a horde of taxi/shuttle services. "The
Red Bus" offers free transport between terminals and between terminals and
the parking lots.
KCATA, the metro, runs from the airport into KC and all
over the in-city and outlying areas. KCATA also offers shuttle service to
Chiefs and Royals games, 1-816-221-0660 for information. The Kansas City
Trolley is a fun ride, more for the experience than for transport though. It's best to rely on a rental car when visiting Kansas City.
In-Season Costs
With all there is to see and do in Kansas City, you won't
really find a specific in-season or out of season. A large number of
conventions base in KC --- your best bargain bet is to always book a room
before you go. Famous for bang-up steak dinners, area restaurants might pack a punch to your wallet -- upwards of thirty dollars for a steak dinner. All the usual chain
restaurants have outlets so you can budget accordingly. Look for hotel
bargains and expect to spend your bucks on meals and shopping.
Day Trips
Less than an hour north of KC is St. Joseph, Mo. The birthplace
of the Pony Express offers riverboat gaming, the legend of Jesse James and
Victorian homes to tour. With excellent shopping and over 20 museums, it's
the perfect day trip destination.
In the same direction, Jamesport, Weston,
and Parkville are happy hunting grounds for antiquers. Weston alone has more than
100 pre-Civil War buildings and Jamesport has the largest Missouri
Amish community. Powell Gardens, 20 miles east of Lee's Summit, Mo., offers
915 acres of gardens, a café, and classes.
